HALF MAN || HALF BULL
Created in the studio At The Mill in Stillington and recorded down the road at Crooked Room Studio in Strensall, Half Man || Half Bull is a theatrical listening experience by Alexander Wright and Phil Grainger (the two local creatives who performed Orpheus and Eurydice in the Glade At The Mill in 2020) and their London pal Oliver Tilney. Along with a host of amazing collaborators, they created a narrative-led double-album of music and spoken word, accompanied by a beautiful listening pack. For more info and to purchase the experience, head to the Half Man || Half Bull website linked in the event title.
ORPHEUS & EURYDICE
“Orpheus” and “Eurydice” are two internationally award-winning retellings of Ancient Greek myths, created and woven together by a couple of proudly locally-grown talents: Alexander Wright and Phil Grainger. For a lovely window of time in summer, At The Mill invited our local community to hear the interconnecting stories, told through Alex’s searing spoken word and Phil’s soaring vocals. Gathered in the Glade At The Mill, we shared some beautiful evenings of story-telling and community. There’s definitely more of this to come. You can check out Wright & Grainger on their Instagram page, by clicking the event title.
The famous five
An adaptation of Enid Blyton's classic stories, this was the first fully-professional cast to perform At The Mill. The show was created, developed and performed in our gardens, before the cast and crew set-off to tour venues and literary festivals across the UK.
THE TEMPEST
Our first production At The Mill was a part-professional, part-community promenade performance of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Featuring a cast of 22 local performers and 4 professional actors, the show was made entirely on-site and performed for a week around the gardens.
